The high school basketball season is in full swing, and the latest round of highlights from WNDU's 16 Sports Xtra are sure to get fans buzzing. From nail-biting overtime thrillers to dominant individual displays, this week's action had it all.
Underdogs Shine in Sectional Semifinals
One of the biggest storylines was the success of several underdog teams in the sectional semifinals. In Indiana's Class 4A Sectional 3, the South Bend Adams Eagles pulled off a surprising 48-32 victory over rival South Bend Riley. Not to be outdone, the Penn Kingsmen cruised past LaPorte 56-28 to set up a championship showdown with Adams.
Over in Sectional 4, the Northridge Raiders dominated Concord 71-41, while the Warsaw Tigers took down Elkhart 65-40. These wins guaranteed an all-Michiana final between Northridge and Warsaw.
Standout Individual Performances
While the team success was thrilling, there were also several awe-inspiring individual efforts. In the Class 3A Sectional 19, Culver Academies' star player put on a show, leading his team to a 41-23 victory over John Glenn with a stellar all-around game. Over in Sectional 20, Fairfield's sharpshooter caught fire, draining three-pointers en route to a 43-20 win over NorthWood.
The Class 1A action was equally captivating, with Marquette Catholic's go-to scorer erupting for 61 points in their 61-42 defeat of Westville. Not to be outdone, the Culver Cavaliers' lockdown defense held Triton to just 30 points in their 37-30 triumph.
